Short blog today. I just want to introduce what I call coaching by walking around. It’s not a new concept but it’s a great concept.
In simple terms this concept is to spend your time catching people doing things well and catch them doing things right. So often business owners are looking for the time when their staff are doing things wrong. Is that really the best way to motivate the team?
Let’s flip it around.
Why not look for those times when they wow a customer, when they deliver exceptional customer service or even when they just do something that helps the business.
Catch them doing it right, say thank you and give them some praise. I guarantee that it will motivate your team much more than offering them a few pounds.
However it does take time. You have to put some time in your diary to make sure you’re with your team. But it makes such a difference for them, it is absolutely the right thing to do. You’ll instantly see their morale and their enthusiasm for the business go up.
What are your thoughts on this? Is it a good thing to catch people doing things right rather than to catch them doing things wrong?
