Every day we’re faced with challenges and sometimes it feels like we’ve hit a brick wall.
Does this happen to you?
Over the past few months, its happened to me more than ever before.
Starting a business from scratch has been a new challenge. I’ve got plenty of experience buying businesses, growing them and overcoming obstacles but starting at the beginning has been interesting. The lessons I’ve learnt in the past have been extremely valuable but I’ve had to learn a few new things.
When you buy an existing business you already have some customers, there’s a cash flow and there are some systems in place. The fun is developing these and driving up the profit. This is not so with a startup and that’s what I’ve found a challenge.
I’ve had to develop everything from scratch, and there’s been a fair bit of head-scratching in the process.
Somethings will work and some don’t. This is where I’ve been hitting the wall. Despite my best efforts, some things have just not worked. The sense of disappointment and frustration has driven me to distraction and there have been times when I’ve seriously doubted myself and my ability
But I’ve been able to overcome this and get through the wall.
There is always another side to the wall
I’ve started looking at it in two ways.
- Drive through the wall, stick to your guns, be persistent and keep going.
- Go round the wall, accept it’s not working, be flexible and look for alternatives.
By choosing one of these I’ve been able to get to the other side of the wall and move on.
The trick to this is how quickly you get to the other side.
If you’re going through get your head down and grind, every hour of every day until you’re on the other side.
If you’re going around the wall, make decisions quickly, cut your loses and crack on.
