In our Facebook group we get asked lots of questions and one that came up recently was how do you have work life balance?
A good question and something I’ve been thinking about all of my professional career. For over 20 years I’ve been trying to work out how to balance work and life.
And I’ve come to a conclusion.
Some people will disagree with me and there might be others out there who have a different opinion but I believe there is no such thing as work life balance.
There is only balance because sometimes you do need to work the extra hours, sometimes you do need to work on the weekend especially if you’re self-employed.
However it’s important then to think about yourself. Recognise when you’ve put in the extra effort or when you’ve delivered your responsibilities and take some time back. On a Wednesday afternoon realise that it is perfectly acceptable to spend time with the family. Get on your bike or do some exercise. Whatever it is it’s about finding a balance and not distinguishing between what’s work and what’s life. You just need to flow. Stop worrying about it.
One of the things that I find really beneficial is to focus on being present in every moment. I don’t think about whether it’s work, family time or just some time for me I just focus on being present in the moment. If you’re with your family be present with your family. If you’re in work be in work.
Because if you’re spending your time in work thinking that you should be with your family and if you’re with your family spending time thinking you should be working you’re always going to have a problem.
Work on being present in the moment and then you won’t need to worry about work life balance.
Hope that helps. Any questions or any comments on that could be really interested in your thoughts. Let me know. Drop me a line. Why not join our Minds That Master Facebook group and share your thoughts.
